METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024. 

On Sept. 2, 2024, Metropolis Police received a call that a male subject was attempting to sell “weed” behind the Humma Apartments. Officers located a subject matching the description given. He denied trying to sell weed but stated that the weed he was possessing was for his personal use. A computer check on the subject, Allen S. Joiner, 41, Hartford, KY, showed that he was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Possession of Methamphetamine. He was arrested. A search of his fanny pack found drug paraphernalia and a white powdery substance. Near his bike, the officers found a pistol. Joiner was charged with a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

On Sept. 6, 2024, while on patrol, a Metropolis officer observed Austin C. Burnham, 30, of Metropolis enter a vehicle parked at the Marathon Station on 12th Street and Coburn. The officer tapped on the window and advised Burnham to get out of the vehicle due to him have warrants. He rolled up the window and the driver took off at a high rate of speed, squealing its tires and crossed 12th Street without yielding and causing numerous vehicle to brake hard and avoid a collision. A pursuit ensued. The driver later identified as Chelsea B. Emery of Henderson, KY, made numerous traffic violations and ended up going westbound on Catherine Street at Metropolis Elementary School which is a one-way eastbound. There were students present and outside playing at the playground. She stopped near 11th Street where Burnham fled on foot. Burnham was captured a few blocks later. Burnham was charged with a Massac County warrant for Theft, and a Massac County warrant for FTA-Violation of an Order of Protection. He was also charged with Resisting/Obstructing Arrest. Emery was charged with Fleeing/Attempting to Elude Police, Reckless Driving, Concealing or Aiding a Fugitive, and numerous traffic violations. She was released on a notice to appear.

On Sept. 6, 2024, a Metropolis officer observed Terrell B. Deen, 38, of Metropolis in the 600 block of 17th Street. The officer was aware that Deen was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Kentucky for Parole Violation – Possession of Methamphetamine. Upon seeing the squad car, Deen ran inside a trailer. He was found hiding under a bed and taken into custody. He was also charged with Resisting/Obstructing Arrest and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

On Sept. 7, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to the 1700 block of Filmore for a theft report. The caller stated that her Suboxone, a controlled substance was stolen. During the course of this investigation, officers observed drug paraphernalia used in methamphetamine in plain sight. Ashley R. Jenkins, 40, of Metropolis was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine as well as Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The missing drugs were not located and the investigation is ongoing with more arrests anticipated.

On Sept. 7, 2024, Dakotah M. McCoy, 31, of Metropolis was arrested at a residence on Grace Drive. McCoy was wanted on a Massac County warrant for Theft. He was taken to the Massac County Detention Center for processing and then released on a notice to appear.

On Sept. 8, 2024, Ezekiel L. Oliver, 21, of Hopkinsville, KY, was arrested on a warrant in the area of 6th and Butler Street. The warrant was issued by Kentucky for Parole Violation-Burglary. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
