MURPHYSBORO – A man was recently convicted in connection with a June shooting in Carbondale.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph Cervantez says 18-year-old Justin Perteet-Lovelady of Carbondale was found guilty of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in the June 21 shooting in the area of Springer Street and West Main.

He was convicted on Sept. 21 following a two-day trial in Jackson County Court. He will be sentenced later. He was arrested on June 24.

Cervantez presented a video showing a man in dark clothing getting out of a vehicle and firing a few shots at another vehicle while it drove west on Main Street. The suspect, later identified as Perteet-Lovelady, left the area before police arrived. A building in that area was also struck by gunfire.

Perteet-Lovelady will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence in prison. He will serve three years of mandatory supervised release following his prison term.

Carbondale Police investigated the shooting.
