ENFIELD – Jerry Waylon McGehee, 88, of Enfield, IL, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at McLeansboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in McLeansboro.

He was born April 17, 1936, in Springerton, IL, to Clyde and Lela McGehee. On February 26, 1956, he wed Shirley Ann York, who preceded him in death on August 5, 2019.

Jerry had a strong work ethic and worked from the time he was 15 years old until he was 78. He previously served as the Road Commissioner in Enfield for many years, worked in the oil field as a driller, and as a truck driver for the Circle R Fertilizer plant in Springerton. He was a member of the Springerton Community Church. He enjoyed hunting rabbits, birds, squirrels, and frogs, and he loved spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Tullis of Springerton; daughter, Patty (Alan) Blazier of Carmi, IL; son Tim (Tammy) McGehee of Enfield; and grandchildren Heath (Tina) Tullis, Chanse (Shelyn) Tullis, Billy McKitrick, Crystal (Jason) Stallings, Calan (Corey Waide) Blazier, Cole Blazier, Melissa (Troy) Dagley, and Jason Woodrow. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lela McGehee; his wife, Shirley Ann McGehee; three sisters, Jewell Stocke, Louanna Rush, and Betty York; and his son-in-law, Dwight “Bunny” Tullis.

Funeral services for Jerry Waylon McGehee will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 12:00 p.m., at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with Brother Jack Stone officiating. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. 

Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Hammack Cemetery in Springerton. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McLeansboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Activities Fund and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
