CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police are investigating an armed robbery.
Police say just after 5 a.m. Friday, officers responded to the 900 block of East Park Street for a report of an armed robbery. The victims reported two male suspects requested a ride after a party, then pointed guns at them and demanded all of their property. The suspects took the victims’ property and then stole the vehicle from them. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Later that morning officers located the stolen vehicle parked and unoccupied in the 1100 block of East College Street. Officers and detectives were able to identify one of the suspects as 29-year-old Dominique J. Smith of Carbondale. A warrant for Smith for the charge of Armed Robbery was obtained with assistance from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s office. Smith was located and arrested later that day without incident. Smith was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
The second suspect in the case was identified as Jamir J. Jordan of Markham, Illinois. A warrant for Jordan for the charge of Armed Robbery was obtained with assistance from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s office. Later that afternoon Jordan was located during a traffic stop and he fled from detectives in the vehicle. Detectives were unable to pursue at that time because they were addressing a different individual wanted on a warrant. Jordan fled the City in the vehicle. Jordan later fled from other agencies in other jurisdictions, crashed the vehicle, carjacked another vehicle and was eventually captured in Iroquois County, Illinois where he remains in custody for numerous traffic related offenses and the Armed Robbery charge. The investigation is ongoing.
