SPRINGFIELD – During Tuesday’s 30th Annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Medal of Honor Ceremony in Springfield, 23 firefighters received the Firefighter Excellence Award for an act of service in the line of duty, demonstrating excellence and professionalism in service to their fellow Illinoisans.

Assistant Chief Raymond Scott from the Sesser Fire Protection District was one of the 23 honored with this award.

Other awards given out Tuesday included six firefighters receiving the Medal of Honor, two units received the Firefighter Excellence “Unit Citation” Award, three received the State Fire Marshall Life Safety Award and 23 firefighters were honored with the Medal of Valor award.

The awards presented Tuesday recognized heroic actions during 2022. Nominations were reviewed and winners selected by the Illinois Fire Fighting Medal of Honor Committee.
